Kairin initially studied Hotel Reception and Bookeeping in Aberdeen and Furniture Design at Edinburgh School of Art before heading off to work in Glasgow, London and The Netherlands. When she returned to Scotland she became active in the Transition Town Movement, the Yes campaign and then the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Kairin studied Life Sciences in Dundee and graduated in 2015 with a BSc (Hons) in Anatomical Sciences. She is Executive Director of Modern Money Scotland, Co-Host of the Scotonomics podcast and YouTube show and was elected as an Aberdeen City Councillor in 2022.
